The Dos and Don’ts of Being on an Airplane

Flying on an airplane is usually pretty exciting: you’re going to a new place, getting to fly thousands of feet up in the air, and hopefully, it’ll be fun! But flying can also be really uncomfortable. You can get cramped, bumped, sick…just about anything! But with these few tips, you’ll be just fine.

On my way from Kansas City to Pensacola, I had one connecting flight, so the trip was broken up into two parts and wasn’t so bad at all. The longest part of the trip was the flight from Kansas City to Atlanta, and it was only three hours long. Definitely bearable. I managed to get a window seat both times, so that was also a plus!

If you plan on trying to sleep on your flight, you probably need to aim for a window seat. That way, when people get up and walk down the aisles to go to the bathroom, or when the flight attendants roll down the snack cart, you won’t get bumped and bothered and woken up. You should also bring a light blanket and a pillow, because airplanes are chilly and usually don’t provide those things.

You should probably bring a book or iPod, too. You don’t want to get bored on a long flight. You can’t use your cell phone during flight, so don’t count on Angry Birds unless it’s on your iPad!

Also, keep in mind security measures. When I went to the Kansas City airport, I had to go through those creepy x-ray machines. I didn’t like it at all, but it was something that had to be done. The rest of airport security is just as strict! You can’t bring large bottles on board the plane, so that means no water, perfume, or any other liquid. I do suggest taking a moisturizer on long flights because you can get really tired and your face can get dry, but make sure it’s a small bottle!

Make sure to keep carry-on luggage to a minimum. If you want to pack a toothbrush or other items to use for freshening up before meeting your loved ones, that’s great! But carrying a lot of luggage on board will get in your way and everyone else’s.

I hope you all have wonderful flights, no matter where you’re jet-setting to!
