Big Bird Makeup

After being brought up during a presidential debate, Big Bird has become the most talked-about children’s television show character of the moment. He’s also become the most popular Halloween costume. The Huffington Post reports that “Sassy Big Bird” costumes are flying off the shelves of costume stores around the country. If you scored one of the ruffled yellow dresses and Big Bird headpieces, you’ll need a beauty style to go along with it. Here’s how to get Big Bird-inspired makeup.

Most people try to avoid looking yellow (lest anyone ask if you have jaundice), so you can go ahead and prepare your face normally with your regular foundation. If you really want a yellow tinge, use a yellow powder, normally used to correct reddish tones, and brush it over your face. Try Smashbox Halo Yellow Color Correcting Hydrating Powder.  If you’d rather just get a warm glow, try a gold bronzing powder (looking for more golden tones than bronze ones) like Fleur’s Gold Makeup Golden Powder.

Big Bird’s eyelids are mainly pink with a thick royal blue line along the rim. You can achieve the same look with an eyeshadow pencil, a powder, and some fun mascara. Using Nyx Jumbo Eye Pencil in Cobalt, create a thick line along your top lash line from inner to outer corner. Follow with MAC Eyeshadow in Stars ‘N’ Rockets from the blue line up to your crease. To really emphasize that blue line, apply a royal blue mascara. You can try Diorshow Mascara in Azure Blue, or if you don’t foresee yourself wearing blue mascara after Halloween, you can probably find a cheap Halloween version of fun blue mascara instead.

Your eyes, as well as the Big Bird face sitting on your head, should command all of the attention here, so keep your lip simple. Go for a nude, soft pink, or slightly golden lip. Revlon Color Burst Lip Butter in Creamsicle has a peachy, slightly yellow shade that could pass for Big Bird-esque in a pinch. If you want to make sure that everyone is looking at your face and not at Big Bird’s, try a red lipstick that plays on the color of the inside of Big Bird’s mouth, like Revlon Color Burst Lip Butter in Cherry Tart.

Naturally, you should finish the look off with bright yellow fingernails. If you’re really into the nail art trend, you could get Big Bird’s face painted on one of your nails, or different Sesame Street characters painted on each digit.

Whether you’re making a political statement or paying homage to your childhood hero, finish off your highly sought after costume with Big Bird-inspired makeup.
