A Dashing Combination: Brad Pitt and Chanel
When you think of Chanel, you may see pearls, tweed jackets, suits, or bags, but have you ever pictured Brad Pitt? I know it’s a bit strange, but get used to the idea, because Brad Pitt is officially the new face of Chanel No. 5. Pitt, now 48, has been confirmed by the French fashion house as the face for its oh-so-famous scent, making him the first male to ever be represent No. 5.
I’m interested to see what the storyline and hook will be. In past years, the ads have featured women. This time around, Pitt will be filming ads, shooting pictures, and doing other promotional work for the perfume. I’m just curious as to how Chanel will play it.
I’m also wondering about what Angelina thinks about it! It’s unlikely that we’ll hear her interviewed about it anytime soon, but I’m very much interested in what she thinks about her other half representing a woman’s fragrance. I would like to think she’s proud of him. Why shouldn’t she be?
Brad has an acting career that’s spanned many years and included many different characters. It’s obvious that he has range and talent, so it seems to me that he’s up to the hard job ahead. Representing one of the most iconic scents in the world must be nerve-wracking. I’m reminded of an episode of The Golden Girl where Dorothy needs help getting a man, so their housekeeper gives her a bottle of an unknown substance to put behind her ears. Dorothy lands herself a man, but by then the girls all believe the housekeeper is a witch and is practicing voodoo and magic. Dorothy confronts her about it and asks her what was in the bottle. She replies, “Honey, that ain’t no potion, that’s Chanel No. 5!”
That episode really epitomizes the fame that is No. 5. The Golden Girls was filmed in the eighties, so the reference is quite old, and for the fragrance to still be as popular as it was back then is a testament to its lasting power.
I have no doubts that Brad will be an awesome addition to the long line of No. 5 models. He’s extremely talented and good-looking, so what’s to stop him from being the best face the company has ever had? In my opinion, nothing. It’s certainly a novelty in the beauty industry right now, and I know we’re all waiting to see those first shots.
