To Do – Moisturize

in category of Makeup & Skincare

Yep, you heard me. If you haven’t already established a regular moisturizing regimen, it’s high time you do so. Spring is finally here and summer is right around the corner. You don’t want to be stuck with dry, cracked skin the first time you head to the beach, so take care now, and enjoy later! Follow these tips to hydrated, smooth skin ASAP. First of all, stop showering with hot-as-the-sun water. You want your water to be warm. Bathing in hot water actually has a drying effect. And don’t even think about getting into a hot tub unless you have some serious lotion to back it up with, because the hot water mixed with the crazy chemicals in that tub will wreak havoc on your skin. Next, always moisturize after you shower. Simply showering isn’t enough to guarantee that your skin is hydrated. And don’t just do it when you think you need it. Moisturize at least once a day; it makes sense to do it in your shower. If you have especially oily skin, you can knock it down to every other day. The best way to ensure this sinks in is to exfoliate during your shower. A daily sugar scrub followed by lotion is the recipe for great skin, so head to your nearest Crabtree and Evelyn ASAP!

If this isn’t helping, or you wake up in the morning and the first thing you think is that your face feels awfully dry, then consider investing in a humidifier. Your skin needs more than 30 percent humidity to stay properly moisturized at all times, so remember that when you set it up. You may not even feel a difference now (and really, you don’t want to feel it at all times, or you’ll end up a sticky mess), but you will be happier twenty years from now when you’re entering your golden age and your skin doesn’t look like leather! If your feet or hands are still dry compared to the rest of your body, consider applying moisturizer before bed and sleeping with an old pair of gloves or socks. It’s just like giving your feet a scrubbing at a spa – the socks will keep the moisture in and give your feet a chance to really absorb it! Lastly, have you ever heard of fish oil pills? They are kind of a magical pill. They’re great for heart health, metabolism, hair, nails and…you guessed it, your skin! The omega-3 fatty acids in them are just panaceas, so invest in a bottle at your nearest CVS ASAP!
