Your lifestyle, your quirk
Oily skin is the bane of so many people’s existence, men and women alike. Perhaps the most annoying thing about it is that there’s no perfect solution. Treating oily skin is largely about trial and error, and it’s not even just trying different products for one thing! For instance, washing your face is obviously crucial, so it would behoove you to maintain a regular schedule of cleansing. However, did you know it’s possible to wash your face too much? It really is, and it’s quite an unfortunate mistake. You see, oil isn’t just a natural process that your skin thinks is nice. It’s a reaction to what your skin sees as a problem. If your skin thinks it’s too dry, it creates moisture. When you wash your face too frequently, you remove the natural oil and your skin dries out, and therefore it overcompensates by creating even more oil, thereby negating all your hard work. Washing your face twice a day usually does the trick.
However, this still might not regulate things, especially if you wear makeup. Many girls complain that by the end of the day, their face is full of oil, even though they’re wearing foundation. Well, newsflash. Make up is not facewash! It’s natural for your skin to keep doing what it does, even if there’s makeup on it. You need to invest in products that work with you, not against you. To begin, get the right kind of foundation. Yes, you want to get make up that’s not oily, but remember the lesson we learned earlier. For one, powder foundations are known for not doing your skin any favors in the oil department because, you guessed it, they dry out your skin more easily! Try out a liquid product and see if it helps, like L’Oreal Infallible or Barbara Daly’s porcelain. If you find yourself across the pond, Barry M foundation is the best. If you’re still not seeing any results, use a primer or mattifier underneath your foundation to fortify your pores. Or think of other products that you could mix and match with foundation, like bronzer, on certain parts of your face, like your temples, jawline, etc. MAC and DHC are very well-known for their amazing products. Lastly, if all else fails, pick up some Biore cleansing wipes! Blotting papers do the same trick – soaking up the oil as the day goes on. Use one in the morning and one in the afternoon to stay fresh. Just be sure to find some that aren’t so moist they ruin your makeup. Be gentle. Pat, don’t rub, for the benefit of your makeup and complexion.
