Summer Eye Makeup Musts

No look is complete without the perfect eye makeup, am I right ladies? It’s all about finding the combination that’s right for you. So have some fun with the hottest trends of summer 2012:

Metallics

Spring/summer 2012 runway shows like Fendi and Just Cavalli were dominated by metallic looks from bold and silver leaf eyes to shimmering gold shadow. 3.1 Phillip Lim swept metallic shadow from the corner of the eye throughout the crease to create an awesome futuristic effect. While these bold runway looks may be too much for your everyday style, a color that you definitely can work whether you’re going dressy or casual is copper. According to Glamour, copper is one of few colors that looks great on almost anyone! It works either used all over your lid or just as a liner to add a special touch of color. This color will also really make your tan pop, so it’s a great summer shade!

Ashlee Simpson recently looked amazing with a matte rust color smudged over her lids paired with a swipe of shimmery copper shadow underneath her lash lines.

Holographic Eye Shadow

Holographic eye shadows like the formulas made by Essence can take an everyday style and turn it in to something really stunning! Adding a tiny touch just around a thin line of black eyeliner will really catch the light and create a fun, flirty look that’s perfect for summer. For a dramatic eye, you can also add golds, greens, or whatever shade you like on the rest of your lid, or just in the inner corners.

Navy smoky eyes

The smoky eyed look has been freshened up for Spring/Summer 2012, with designers ditching black and gray and favoring navy blue. As well as being popular with labels including Rodarte and Emanuel Ungaro, navy shadow is way more flattering on older eyes than the darker shadows, which can emphasize wrinkles, and a touch of blue liner often helps counteract redness.

The Cat Eye (with a fresh twist)

I’ll admit, winged liner in one of my favorite looks for a night out, but it’s nothing new. But there's an easy way to make it look fresh and fashionable, as seen in this photo of Doutzen Kroes at the CFDA Awards.

There's the usual line that's extended out at the end, but if you look closely you can see that there's another stroke of liner close to the base of her lashes. It criss-crosses the flicked out part in a downward direction. It's subtle, but it gives a cool twist to this bold look that will really have everyone looking at your eyes!

So what’s your favorite makeup style for summer?
