It’s Not About the Medal – Or the Chair

in category of Sports, Audra Rundle

Minutes after crossing the finish line of my 50k (31-mile) race last weekend, I was trying to stretch while holding my 1-year-old daughter and talking with my husband and a few awesome friends who had come out to cheer me on. We were just joking around and trying to decide if I should/could eat anything yet, when the race director came up to me and asked a few questions. I was surprised to have the race director personally speak with me, but a few moments later, his wife – the co-race director – came over and informed me that I was the first female 50K finisher.Read More »

What Do “Long Runs” Look Like?

in category of Sports, Audra Rundle, Ultrarunning

This weekend was my last long training run before my 50K. What does a “long training run” for a 50K (approximately 31 miles) look like? There are many different looks to an ultramarathon training run, actually.

It looked pitch black outside during the 5:30 a.m. wake-up call; I was up that early to eat peanut butter toast and have a cup of coffee to fuel for the long morning ahead, and to allow some time for digestion to start.Read More »

ANTM Ep. 9 Recap

in category of Sports, ANTM, Colleen Walsh-Jervis, recaps

After so many weeks of teasing with the return of an eliminated model, I had nearly given up on ever finding out who would come back. Luckily, Tyra finally revealed – via that awful number-flipping scoreboard – that Leila would be coming back. Her social media scores ended up less than half a point above Allyssa’s, but that’s enough to come back! I squealed with delight. The remaining models are upset that Leila is coming back because they think that Leila is a fierce competitor. Well, yeah, that’s why she earned social media votes.Read More »

How Can the USADA Go After Lance Armstrong?

in category of Sports, celebrity news, Jordan Alexis

Last week, the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) put a lifetime ban on cycling legend Lance Armstrong. Armstrong, a cancer survivor and seven-time Tour de France winner, has been a hero to many. His legacy spawned the popular “Livestrong” movement (who doesn’t have one of the recognizable yellow Livestrong bracelets?), and Armstrong’s Livestrong non-profit organization provides a number of valuable resources to people diagnosed with cancer.Read More »

Lance Armstrong: “It’s Not About The Bike”

in category of Sports, Audra Rundle

Lance Armstrong has picked his family and cancer research foundation over his ego and reputation as the best cyclist of our time. A big decision to make, but not really a tough one. He made the best – the only  - decision a family man and cancer survivor could and should.Read More »

A Fine Romantic Triangle

in category of Sports, Colleen Walsh-Jervis

Many scorned girlfriends believe that their sport fan boyfriends care more for their team than they do about their relationships, but that may not be true. Puma sponsored a study by Bristol University that looked at whether male Newcastle United soccer fans cared more for their favorite team or for their wives/girlfriends. Teams can feel like quite the fiery mistress on Football Night in America or Hockey Night in Canada, but it turns out that the love triangle may be less balanced than even the fans themselves think.Read More »

Bolt Offered Nuggets for Life

When McDonald’s announced that they were building a restaurant in the Athletes’ Village of Olympic Park, I wondered if they would get any business. Many athletes have strict diets: though they have to consume a lot of calories to support their training, they need a balanced diet with plenty of lean protein. That doesn’t really sound like most McDonald’s fare.Read More »

NBC’s Olympics Coverage: Thumbs Down

in category of Sports, Abby Lee Hood

Over the course of the past few weeks, NBC’s coverage of the Olympics got progressively worse. It started with a brief highlight reel that showed the winner of a competition getting gold before the event even aired. Fans were upset over the too-early reel, but possibly could have forgiven the situation. Unfortunately, it didn’t stop there.Read More »

Best of the Rest

in category of Sports, Colleen Walsh-Jervis, olympics

As the Olympics went on, everyone’s eyes were on the medal count. The world watched as China and the United States went back and forth, taking their turns as the country with the most gold, silver, and bronze medals. Fewer people watched the lead, tin, and zinc medal counts. The Wall Street Journal decided to tally last-place finishes to see which country had the most, giving last place a lead medal. Second-to-last got tin, and third-to-last received zinc. Here’s what they found out about the winners of the losers.Read More »

Of all of the Olympic athletes who could possibly get their own reality show, one swimmer is reportedly fielding multiple offers. Ryan Lochte may get his own reality show in addition to a slew of endorsements and possible modeling gigs. Basically, Lochte’s 15 minutes of fame are just beginning. He has already made his acting debut: after Will Ferrell said he would love to have the swimmer star in a video for his website, Lochte starred in a new Funny or Die clip.Read More »
