The Best Comedies on Television

in category of TV
The state of comedy on TV right now is somewhat tense. Looking at the three main networks, you see competing visions of comedy. A lot of what you’ll find is nothing to write home about, but some sitcoms are literally gut-busting, in addition to highly intelligent. Before pulling out TV Guide, check out our guide about what’s hot and what’s not.
  1. Community – This show boasts dismal ratings, but that’s mostly because its humor is too smart for its own good. No other show on network television is as fast-paced, quick-witted or downright hilarious, and routinely.Read More »

Big Bang Theory

in category of TV
"The Friendship Contraction" aired 2/2/2012 Being a geek, I thoroughly enjoy watching Big Bang Theory. Not only do I love the inside geek jokes, but as a friendship comedy, it rocks. Not only that, the geek style portrayed is amazing and fresh. So this week’s episode is described thus: “The friendship contract is in danger of being nullified when Leonard tires of Sheldon's selfish ways, and Wolowitz is spacing out over the selecting of astronaut nickname for himself.” It starts out with Sheldon waking up Leonard for a fire drill.Read More »

Costco, Kmart and Walmart, Oh My

in category of TV, Tracey Vest
I lived in L.A. for several years and never made it to Castaic, but according to one character in Southland, folks are living large there. I think I found it just as amusing as Officer Ben Sherman as he listened to Sammy Bryant list these retailers close to where he lives as “perks.” I like a bargain like the next person, but I think there is a little “grass is greener” going on in both yards. Tuesdays episode was definitely less gory than last week’s.Read More »

The New HBO Series Luck

in category of TV
Here at StyleQuirk, we are all about style, and despite the star-studded cast, the HBO series pilot of LUCK lacked just that—style. I know what you’re saying. How can a show with Dustin Hoffman, Dennis Farina, Nick Nolte, Richard Kind, and even Gary Stevens (for you horse racing fans), among others, get a zero on the style-meter? You’re thinking I have to be crazy, but to me, horse racing is all about style and grace, and the storyline of Luck only concentrates on some concocted underbelly of bad guys and degenerates.Read More »

Game of Thrones Season 2 Trailer! Winter is Coming...April First

in category of TV
With over 1.5 million views so far, the Game Of Thrones season 2 trailer is well on its way to becoming viral. This tease is all I need to get excited for the return of the best hour on TV in ages. If you have missed it, Game of Thrones was a hit last season for HBO, based off the books of the same name by George R.R. Martin. Game of Thrones is a fantasy series for adults. The one thing missing from the trailer? Daenerys’ pets (watch the series, you will understand). Game of Thrones comes back to HBO on April 1.Read More »

Grieving Las Vegas: The Jersey Shore in Vegas

[left_image link="http://www.stylequirk.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/las-vegas-sign.jpg"]http://www.stylequirk.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/las-vegas-sign.jpg[/left_image] Women and children, heck, everyone—run! Get ready, Las Vegas; the Jersey Shore kids could be the next show here. For once, Las Vegas natives won’t be hoping what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas. Much as I hate to admit it, I couldn't name all these “characters”’ if my life depended on it. Due to circumstances beyond my control, I know who they are.Read More »

Big Winners at the Screen Actors Guild Awards

in category of TV
Each year, the winners at awards shows leading up to the Academy Awards—the “Big Kahuna” of ceremonies—hint at who may become the blessed recipients of those esteemed little gold men. If last night’s Screen Actors Guild awards are any indication, The Help is destined for Oscar glory. The stars of the Civil Rights-era film, based on the bestselling book, took home statues for Best Actress, Best Supporting Actress ,and Outstanding Performance by a Cast.Read More »
