Answer the Call of the Wild
Tribal prints are one of the hot fashion trends that are showing up on magazine pages and runways for summer 2012. I agree that this cool print is perfect for summertime heat, but I think it can be a bit overwhelming. It’s a big plus that this print is obviously seasonal, but it can also look dated when the seasons change. A good fashionista thinks ahead, so if you’re on a budget, a nice way to go a little wild with this trend and add it to your wardrobe without investing too much cash is with an oversized scarf.
A good fashionista knows you can never have too many accessories, and beautiful printed scarves are always perfect additions
to a wardrobe. You won’t have to look too far for this item; this hot trend is usually present each year, and part of several big name lines, so this is an easy way to work a high-end look without a matching price tag.
Oversized scarves in any color or print are perfect for adding a bit of color to a simple outfit. Wear it around your neck, or use one of these scarves to create head wraps, belts, shawls, and even swimsuit cover-ups. Ethnic tribal prints work best, but you can get a similar effect with other abstract prints, like tie-dye, Batik, or even some floral prints. You can also take your pick between neutrals and bright colors.
Cotton is probably the best bet to beat the summer heat, but do check out other natural textiles like silk and linen. Synthetics are not my favorite textiles, but one plus is that they do wrinkle nicely and create a nice effect. I suggest you buy a bunch to keep on hand for an instant outfit pick-me-up and to rescue yourself from bad hair days.
An outfit that is perfect to show off these pretty scarves is a simple white t-shirt and jeans or a black dress, but do feel free to mix your prints. Just wrap your scarf around your neck a few times and let the ends hang loosely or you can make a few knots to add some weight. Another idea is to pair one of these pretty scarves with this season’s hot maxi dress for a lovely boho-chic look.
