The Bachelorette Episode 2 Fashion Recap

During last night’s episode of The Bachelorette, I was more enamored with what Emily Maynard was wearing than her chemistry with the 19 guys she’s dating. Emily is known for her style, a mix of feminine glam and trendy edge, and I have to admit that as a fashion addict, I’m more excited to see what she chose to wear on her glamorous dates than what she actually did on said dates. Lucky for my clothes-obsessed heart, her fashion last night was far more interesting than the romantic storylines.

For the first time, I actually had mixed feelings about something Emily wore – imagine the surprise! Usually I’m obsessed with everything that little Southern Belle pulls from her closet, but in last night’s episode there were some pageant-worthy gowns that were pretty in their own way, but felt a little…off

Let’s start with that dramatic, dark, rose-hued ruffle mermaid gown she wore on her ill-fated date with Joe. The dress wasn’t my favorite, mostly because it looked like Emily was playing dress-up. The dress didn’t fit her as well as it should have – she was frequently tugging at the strapless top to pull it up – and carrying that poufy skirt as she walked looked exhausting! During the date at the Greenbrier hotel, she kept mentioning how much she loved spending time there as a child – and I felt like the over-the-top gown was a symptom of the little girl in Emily wanting to play dress up. Conclusion: It wore her, she didn’t wear it.

Another not-so-fabulous gown was her rose ceremony dress. I didn’t hate it – it actually had a beautiful silhouette and color – but it was a smidge too “pageant” for my taste. Add in the lush curly up-do, and the effect was very Prom Queen. She looked beautiful (it’s hard for her not to!), but it wasn’t as sleek and sophisticated as I would have liked.

Emily hit it out of the park with her cocktail dresses. The red, one-sleeve lace mini she wore on her date with Ryan was the perfect combo of sexy and sweet.

During her group date’s cocktail hour, I lost focus on the guys’ bickering and kept hoping for close-ups of her sexy-yet-modest black cocktail dress. I loved how chic the long-sleeve mini looked from the front, and then she turned around and bam! It had a sheer floral lace back. Love at first sight.

Too bad she can’t say that for any of these guys.

I also loved the nude dress she wore during the day at The Greenbrier. The skater dress was sleek and chic, and then you look closely, and there’s a subtle dusting of gold sparkle. Sequins for day? Yes, please! It was adorable and very figure flattering as well.
