Your lifestyle, your quirk
It may be all about the girl as far as most fashions and trends are concerned. It’s a fact there are lots of buttons and bows, sugar and spice and everything nice, but one of the must-have items for the season is borrowed from the boys: a striped button-down banker’s shirt.
This style of shirt goes by several names, like “banker’s stripes,” and I call it an “investor’s shirt,” but basically it’s a classic button-down shirt that has a serious business vibe that is normally worn by the guys. Feel free to “borrow” from your favorite guy to work this fashion trend, but you really don’t have to. Every classic color from white to pastels in solids and prints, with or without the really “down to business” white collar is available in sizes to fit us to a T. In fact, you probably will want to get your own, since one of the characteristics of this shirt is that it is more fitted than your average button-down off to work shirt.
Lucky refers to this shirt as “Gordon Gekko’s work wear basic,” which makes this a fun but timeless salute to the fashions of the ’80s. Adding this shirt to your wardrobe is always a plus because it’s considered a classic, but it’s also a fun way to give a little nod to the ’80s without looking too dated. You can work the trend without choosing garments you might not wear later down the road. This style of shirt was an obvious part of the wardrobe of the movie Wall Street, and signifies the actual events of the ’80s, but it’s also an item both men and women will include in their wardrobes as long as there is business to attend to.
I am a big fan the menswear look, so this is a favorite for me. I know I don’t have to, but my plan is to keep literally borrowing from the boys. My reasons are mostly for the sake of comfort because I don’t like to wear really fitted shirts. Feel free to do the same to work this trend, but this is an item you just might what to make your own. Even designers and labels that might not normally include this piece in their lines are offering it this season. This shirt obviously works for business with skirts and slacks, but you can also pair it with “girly” pieces like shorts, full skirts, and ultra-feminine jewelry like rhinestones and pearls.
