Bling It On!
You may have to lean towards lighter weight garments right now, but one of the easiest ways to bring some of fall 2012’s style to your wardrobe is with some over the top accessories. Glamour is a major trend this season and nothing says glamour and glitz loud and clear like rhinestones.
Rhinestones never fail to add some instant glamour to an outfit. One the cool thing about this type of bling is its timeless. Whether it’s a recent
purchase, a family treasure or a thrift store find, Rhinestones always look fabulous when it comes to accenting some oomph an outfit.
Rhinestones have been around the fashion scene for years and although they have a definite retro vibe, they blend in perfectly with just about any look even contemporary styles. Typically rein stones are worn when you want to look special and take things up a notch, but one of my favorite fashion ideas is when they are worn with jeans tees and sweaters or other ultra-casual clothing.
Several big name designers are offering fabulous garments with the bling already added to work this trend. I am sure these garments are worth every penny, but in case you’re not able to make a purchase, an easy way to mimic some of the runway looks is to scatter a bunch of rhinestone brooches on your dresses, tops, or jackets. Later, when it gets cooler, you can add them to your coats and scarves.
The key to this trend is wearing your bling with an outfit or fabric you normally would not. Try wearing rhinestones with menswear fabrics like wool or tweed, and of course, rock your “rocks” with a pair of jeans. You can also rock them on a pair of killer shoes. You can choose from heels or flats, and I think the more unlikely the shoe, the better for this trend. Marc Jacobs has a pair of interesting “pilgrim” shoes I have had my eye on for months.
There are quite a few options when it comes to wearing rhinestones. You can go for a vintage look with chandelier earrings and an ornate bracelet or necklace, or you can go more modern and glam it up oversized with wide, chunky cuffs, oversized rings, and earrings. If you are not into jewelry but still want to add a bit of ice, you can try a pretty hair accessory like a rhinestone headband, hairpins, or barrettes.
