Classically Cool
There are so many fabulous fashion trends going on right now for men and women, it can be a bit overwhelming, especially when it comes to choosing what to beg, borrow, or steal for your wardrobe. Lucky for fashionistas all across the nation, there are some fashion basics that are always in style and can add new life to your wardrobe without killing your budget. Sometimes you don’t even have to make a purchase; often, these items are already in your closet. One of these basics, which also
happens to be one of my all-time favorites, is the white cotton t-shirt.
A white t-shirt is timeless, and it can easily be called sexless and ageless. This item is stylish for both men and women. Another plus is a white tee can work all year long and can have both a retro and contemporary look. I know I am completely biased and it’s not fair, but I think a white t-shirt is at its all-time fashion best when worn by us gals. There is something sort of charmingly sexy when women wear men’s clothing and give it a feminine twist. You can pull this off by pairing the shirt with an ultra-feminine garment and accessories…or just by wearing it.
The most common white t-shirt choice is the crew neck, followed closely by the V-neck, and don’t forget the “wifebeater.” I hate the name, but these tops are equally cool and comfortable.
I used to “borrow” these from my father and older brother when I was younger, and nowadays I have my own stash. White t-shirts are also perfect as a quick swimsuit cover-up, but I think white t-shirts really make a fashion statement when worn as street wear day or night. A few of my favorite fashion ideas for a plain white t-shirt are:
1. With jeans, of course.

2. Paired with a skirt or pant in a lux fabric like sequins, leather, or silk.

3. Under a suit or paired with an extremely feminine skirt, long or short.

Although crewnecks are typically the t-shirt of choice, you can also work this trend by checking out a white t-shirt in one of these other basic neckline styles for a fresh, fun, and frugal fashion idea for summer 2012.
