The Deep Wool V

in category of Fashion, Tracey Vest

Sweaters are the usual bill of fare for both sexes once the weather starts to get cooler. Depending on where you live, it’s possible to get away with a sweater instead of a coat for a good long time. So right now, while we are still shopping around for the more heavy-duty type of sweaters for skiing and other outdoor stuff, a perfect sweater for the moment is a deep wool v-neck.

What’s cool about this sweater style is it can be genderless, especially in solid colors. I am all for garments that can be worn for both men and women, but typically I am not a big fan of this style for guys. It’s just my opinion, but the deep v-neck sweater has more of a feminine vibe to me. I think it’s more suited to show off female assets like gorgeous jewelry and scarves, but to each his own. Nothing is really off limits in fashion as long as you’re not a hazard to others. We all have our quirks as far as fashion goes. I wear white shoes in the winter and a few other things other folks may think are odd. It’s all part of the fun of fashion.

One key point for this item is that it is a perfect sweater choice for layering for either sex. I just have a word of caution if you wear this style of sweater: the deep V-neck can be a bit challenging for both men and women. Unless you’re going for a certain look and want the attention, you probably don’t want to wear it alone without something underneath. Ladies, a great idea is to fill in the area with lots of cool neckwear, but going solo will be a bit chilly.

Here are a few ideas for working this trend into your wardrobe. Most of them are for guys, but you can adapt them for women.

1. Start with a crew neck t-shirt, maybe with a cool logo, stripes or contrasting color, followed by a deep v-neck, with or without a blazer.

2. Pair a deep v-neck sweater with a plaid shirt or white button-down for a classic look.

3. Scarves are a hot accessory for guys this season; they are perfect tied loosely to top off your deep v-neck.

4. Substitute a deep v-neck cardigan for your usual blazer and wear it on top of jeans, khakis, or trousers.
