Don’t Toss Damaged Jeans
Beat-up, distressed jeans with holes in them are actually back in style, but sometimes a beloved pair of jeans suffers an accident that leaves them beyond wearing. I am sure you have been down this road before: some tragic event leaves you with a pair of jeans, usually your favorite, that would otherwise be completely wearable if not for a broken zipper or a rip, hole or tear in an inconvenient place.
This has happened to me more times than I care to count, and for some reason it takes me a minute to work through this. I
know it would be much easier to accept a complete loss, move on, and replace the jeans but it usually takes me through a strange process. The jeans end up unworn but still in my possession, or I attempt to wear them with cleverly orchestrated maneuvers but spend more time worrying than enjoying my outfit. I know this is a bit odd, but I feel it’s safe to say that when it comes to a pair of favorite jeans, no matter what the cost, most fashionistas (male or female) can be plunged into the depths of depression.
There are other things you can try: patches, shorts, or creating some sort of interesting accessory like a tote bag, but I know from experience that nagging “if only” that can taunt a person for months. I am sure there are some folks who can take this on the chin and move on as if nothing happened, but for the rest of us, there is new hope: Denim Therapy.
If you’re not familiar with them yet, Denim Therapy is a company located in New York that is literally a hospital or rehab for jeans. From what their site advertises, they can fix whatever mishap your jeans have suffered and have them back to their old selves. They even transform regular jeans into maternity.
From rips to tears to broken zippers, you name it, they can fix it…for a price. I haven’t checked them out by actually having a pair of jeans worked on, but I have to say the idea is pretty clever and the before and after photos are nothing short of amazing. The prices seem pretty reasonable, and although they give you an estimate before doing the work, it could end up being a bit pricey.
I will probably continue to distract myself with creativity, but it’s always nice to have options. So instead of going to therapy over a pair of beloved jeans, you can just send the jeans themselves.
