Extraordinary Ordinary Jeans: Earnest Sewn Jeans
Nothing beats a plain old pair of denim blue jeans when you want to be casual, comfortable, and look good. There are hundreds of brands to choose from, but it can get a bit overwhelming with all of the styles, cuts, washes, and embellishments. Decorative pockets and stitching are great telltale signs for what you paid for a pair of fabulous jeans, but sometimes you want to go high-end on the low-low. One brand that does not scream its price tag is Earnest Sewn.
Read about the company’s inception and intention here – it’s a great story!
What makes these jeans really special is the company avoids as much of the standard “assembly line” manufacturing process as possible. Some operations are performed by specialists, but wherever possible, sewer completes the majority of the garment. Additionally, the wash process incorporates hand-drawn techniques, ensuring that no two pairs are alike. There are three people overseeing each pair's production, along with the president and designer Scott Morrison. The jeans are hand-stamped after each step of the process is complete. In the words of Scott Morrison, “By signing our names we are committing our reputation to the product and validating its authenticity and quality, so therefore, ‘Every pair is sewn in earnest.’”
My heart belongs to Levis, for the price and especially for the comfort, but I can see the appeal of this jean. They are made well, look great and have an interesting bio. It’s no surprise that they are a favorite of celebrity fashionistas like Katherine Heigl and Jessica Alba, and I am sure that adds to the appeal to mere mortals like you and me. If I were to indulge in a pair, I would go for one of the basic straight leg styles in traditional blue, but the options are endless; you will find all of the hot trends as far as cut color and fabrications.
