Fall Dots are Spot On

There are several fashion trends from the summer for both men and women that are making a return and/or crossing over for the fall. One of them is polka dot prints. I think most folks will agree that polka dots are typically associated with summertime and summer clothing, but polka dots are still popping up all over clothing, shoes, and accessories for fall 2012.

I am not sure how I am feeling about this trend. I have nothing against polka dots; in fact, I adore navy blue and white. I guess it’s just the traditionalist in me. You can say that I like my polka dots in the summer, thank you very much. I do think polka dots are cute, and they can even have a positive effect on your mood. I mean, whether you wear them or not, who doesn’t have a cheery thought or memory when they see a funpolka dot print?

Usually when I think of polka dots, I immediately see navy and white, red and white or yellow, and white polka dots, or what I call summer dots. These color combos are also on deck for fall, but along with the summer dots, we will also be seeing some other color combos that are perfect for fall. I will probably stick with my navy blue and white, but the combos like green and navy, wine and black, and other warm, dark colors are definitely eye-catching. The cheery feelings they can evoke will probably be even more appreciated as the weather slides into fall and winter.

I fell in love with pairing leopard with navy and white polka dots over the summer, so this trend gets an okay by me.

Both male and female fashionistas should plan on working polka dots into the mix when putting together outfits, as this is a great way to work some of the other hot fashion trends. Polka dots prints, especially small ones, have a retro and menswear vibe to them, so the fact that polka dots will be spending one more season with us is fabulous. Their extended stay on the fashion scene simply gives us more opportunities to come up with interesting color combos and patterns to work with.
