Fashion Takes Flight

Since Halloween is just around the corner, it may be time for ghouls, ghosts, and other creepy things, but one fun and not-so-scary trend that is popping up here and there in the fashion world the wing motif.

This trend is a little on the cutesy side, and is not exactly glamorous or high fashion, but who cares? Isn’t fashion supposed to be fun? There is a lot of sexy glitz and glamour going on in fashion right now, but why not take a break from all of that and just have a good time? You don’t have to attach a pair of wings to your back to work this trend, but you can if you want to. No one seems to mind when the Victoria’s Secret models do it.

This wing motif trend can be as subtle or as obvious as you like, and although it’s cute and whimsical, it can also be quite sexy and high fashion. A couple of weeks ago I saw a post on Facebook that included a picture of a black leather jacket that had with wings built into the design. At $110 it might not be the most practical purchase, unless you fell madly in love with it and wings were your personal signature, but it was very cool.

If you want to try this trend out, wings are showing up on all types of fashion items, from shoes to clothing to jewelry. On clothing we are seeing everything from actual wings to simple stencils on the back of a t-shirt or worked subtly into prints.

One of the pieces I could see myself wearing is a winged belt buckle I found. The buckle is fun and whimsical, but it also has a vintage look to it, which makes it a little more practical. The wings motif on jewelry seems to be the most popular use of this trend and the easiest to work into a wardrobe. I think wearing a huge pair of feather wings might be a lot of fun, but you might get a few odd looks.

You should not have much trouble finding something that will allow you to add something with this motif on it. I saw a few pairs of shoes and sneakers with wings on them this summer, but what might be a bit more practical would be a pair of jeans, or a fun baseball hat to take you away from a bad hair day.
