Football Widow Wear?

Fall means different things to different people: back to school, off to college, the end of vacation. As September nears, it also means the beginning of football season.Forgive me. sports fans; I get that it’s a big deal, but when I think fall, I think fashion.

Apparently the two have something in common. Fashionista.com says, “According to The New York Times, Women account for a full 45% of the NFL’s overall fan base – and the NFL believes a good portion of those women’s wardrobes have been lacking in fashion forward football gear.”

Really? I confess I never gave it much thought, so in all fairness, it’s a good thing the NFL has come up It’s My Team, a line of NFL apparel especially geared to women.

Before I took a look at the line and a couple of the ads, I didn’t think much of the idea. But some of the items are quite cute, even though I haven’t committed to a color combo or a team since high school. I have attended a few football games in my lifetime and may in the future, but for me, a football game (especially in chilly weather) is an opportunity to wear cool fall fashions.

The idea is actually quite clever. The t-shirts are especially cute, and I thought it was interesting that the t-shirts were paired with cute skirts in addition to jeans. I don’t think I will be getting anything for myself, but it’s a nice change to see options that are specifically cut for the female form. Now that I think of it, I have had the occasion to buy a gift for a female sports fan, and this would be ideal when the need comes around again.

The line is available at Kohls.com/nfl, and the ads feature Melania Trump, Condoleezza Rice, Serena Williams, and other fans from all walks of life.

Apparently, the NFL is serious about tapping into the fashion biz. According to Cocoperez.com, “The ad campaign was styled by Tina Laakkonen from Vogue Japan and shot by renowned photographer Daniel Jackson, who has shot for Teen Vogue.” The site went on to say, “The NFL is also looking into collaborating with Marchesa co-designer Georgina Chapman to design a special edition t-shirt that will be released following the Giants-Cowboys opener on September 5.”

I know the line is supposed to be geared towards actual fans who want to show that they have team spirit, but if you’re a football widow one of these t-shirts just might get your guys attention a lot easier than an baggy oversized jersey, depending on what you pair it with or without.
