Get Your Wax On

Jeans and all things denim are still hot fashion items. Jeans of every style, length, and wash are still at the top of the must-have fashion list for men, women, and children. It’s hard to believe that once upon time, denim jeans were primarily a garment for men. So to be right in the mix of what’s hot, you simply have to choose your favorite, and it can be as simple as the fabrication. One interesting style you should consider is wax or resin-coated jeans.

These smooth and edgy-looking jeans are not exactly a new trend, but they are getting a bit of attention just in time to help us transition from summer to fall and back to school. This isn’t one of my favorites, but I have to say they definitely are interesting-looking if nothing else.

The wax coating gives these jeans a bit of a shine and a feel that is similar to leather. I am a leather fan and it’s early, so let’s just say the jury is still out for me on this trend. This isn’t really my look, but the wax gives denim a hip rocker vibe that can be quite sexy. If you’re looking for an interesting fashion trend that is unusual, a pair of these jeans could be a great choice.

But ultra-cool or not, if you’re on a budget you may want to skip this trend. Along with the wax giving the denim leather-like appearance and feel, it also gives jeans some of the cleaning restrictions that leather has – you can’t just toss them in the wash. J. Brand is one of the labels working this trend, and I checked out the care of one of their styles.

It’s a tossup between cold water wash and dry cleaning, and neither one can guarantee you won’t lose the finish. But if you decide to work this trend and you happen to have a laundry mishap, you may end up with a whole new textile effect, and maybe start a new trend of your own.
