Go for Brogue
The ladylike, ultra-feminine look we have been seeing all summer is also on deck as a major fashion trend for fall 2012. One interesting twist to this all-girl look is that we will be seeing is a menswear influence, and one of the items working this fun fashion flavor is the brogue shoe.
The brogue shoe is an oldie but a goodie, Wikipedia says the brogue shoe originated in Ireland and Scotland and was worn by
farmers and field workers and not considered suitable for other occasions. I think it’s fascinating that this onetime men’s work shoe has morphed into a shoe that is popular with both sexes and quite stylish to boot.
It’s not unusual for us gals to steal (I mean borrow) a few items from the guys, but this year we will definitely be embracing both our feminine and masculine sides at the same time. I don’t know if it has an official name, but this hot fashion trend will come in the form of garments, footwear, and accessories. Women will be wearing items with menswear detailing or actual menswear items with a definite feminine side.
You can still find this shoe in classic styles in black and brown, but you will also find brogues in colorful leather and other textiles. It’s also become common to see this shoe featuring more than one color. This season, this typically flat and comfy shoe will also be available in an array of heels, ranging from platforms to stilettos. You could say that the brogue has gone rogue. Both styles will have a look that can swing feminine and masculine, depending on what you’re wearing. Since I am a fan of flats and menswear styles, there is no doubt this shoe is on my list to add to my shoe collection.
According to Glamcheck.com, contemporary styles of this shoe still feature original characteristics like the ornamental perforation, stitching, flaps, and other details. These all have a definite masculine vibe to me, but one that is feminine friendly. Fall 2012’s brogue can be worn with dresses and skirts and other definite ladylike looks. Brogues can also have a formal look to them, but the new funky embellishments and colors make this shoe perfect not only for special occasions, but also getting special attention. What I like about this shoe is it combines comfort with chic and will give our feet a stylish break from all of the fabulous heels and platforms we wore all summer.
