Handicapped by Hair?
One of the posts on my Facebook page asks what I think about Anne Hathaway’s look at The Dark Knight Rises premiere. Well, not me particularly, but you know what I mean. I like it, but I figured it would get mixed reviews from the public; her jump from long to short hair is a pretty drastic change. It isn’t the negative responses that surprised me, it’s the negative feedback that seems fueled by her now-short hair.
I think she looks fabulous, period. So do most folks on the net, but come on now, enough with the hair. Just about every post,
whether it gave the actress a yay or nay, made reference to her new short ’do. As in, “She looks great, but if only she still had long hair.”
The Huffington Post added, “Maybe she’s looking to shake up the image that she’s created with her new cut, or maybe she was just feeling extra confident yesterday.”
Really? That’s a bit extreme. Most women and some men will agree cutting your hair, especially when it’s that long, is a big deal, but somehow it’s as if she has become another person. The irony of the whole thing is that’s what actors do.
In case you somehow missed this, the actress cut off her hair for her role in the movie Les Miserables. I didn’t realize she offered to do it, and I find that pretty impressive. You can read how traumatic it was for her at ontheredcarpet.com.
But somehow it seems like it’s more traumatic for the rest of us. From all of the comments you would think the actress suffered a severe tragic mishap that has left her handicapped rather than simply cutting off her hair.
What I found more interesting was the fact both she and Marion Cotillard opted for white rather than carry on the dark theme suggested by the movie’s title. E! Online did touch on that with their post “Marion Cotillard vs. Anne Hathaway: Who Rocked White Best at The Dark Knight Rises Premiere?” But even they tossed out the comment, “But when your hair can't help you on a red carpet, you'd better have a dress that fits.”
My guess is that in a few months, the actress will be getting kudos for her wardrobe and her hair at the premiere of Les Miserables.
