Knee Deep in Style
If you’re itching to hit the stores to do some shopping but need to hold off a little longer before you make a big purchase, check out one of fall 2012’s accessory trends: over the knee socks.
A good fashionista knows that hosiery is always a great add-on item that can add a little something extra or completely take an
outfit to the next level. There are clothes and accessories we won’t be able to do without when the season changes, but budget or not, it’s always a plus when you can extend the life of your wardrobe and take it to the next season, and interesting hosiery is a perfect way to do this.
Along with being right in step with current trends, over the knee socks allow you to take several of your warm weather items into cooler weather. A true fashionista often has no problem with suffering for fashion, but a pair of over the knee socks will keep you looking current and stylish while we wait for the temperature to drop It’s way too early for the warm woolies; they will be here soon enough, but there are tons of interesting colors, patterns, and styles to choose from that will work right now while it’s still pretty warm. Open any magazine and you will see that several designers are showing sheer and lace knee socks with their collections, and they make perfect transitional options.
Shorter skirts and shorts will take on a whole new look with a pair of over the knee socks. It’s true that knee socks can tend to have a junior feeling no matter what the color and fabrication, but this look has an edgy, sexy, more grown-up feeling. Even the more mature fashionista can work this trend with the right color, texture, and outfit.
You can’t go wrong with a pair of black, white, or cream over the knee socks; just takes care not to work the schoolgirl look. Think a bit more retro or European and go for more sophisticated tops with solid bottoms, rather than frilly blouses and bottoms in plaids or prints. Another trick for when the temperature drops is to layer a pair of these socks over contrasting stockings, or add anklets. Don’t be afraid to have fun, though; check out pretty floral prints and stripes, along with the cable knits and opaque.
