Leather to the Next Level

The fashion world has been working overtime to make leather a textile for all seasons, and the effort was successful for the most part but there are still the traditionalists who wait for the cooler seasons. Folks, it will be “green light go” for leather when fall arrives in a few days. If you’ve already been embracing leather all year long and are a bit bored, check out fall 2012’s glossy leather goods.

Leather clothing , accessories, and outerwear with a high-gloss shine have been coming down the runway from various designers and labels, giving the already hot leather trend a whole new look and taking it to a new level. In addition to all of the traditional colors like black, white, and brown, this pretty textile comes in all of this season’s bright hues and some prints.

I have been a fan of patent leather ever since I was a little fashionista, so obviously this textile isn’t anything new and you can find it every year. What is different about this season’s patent leather offerings is that we are seeing larger items and patent leather being used for actual garments, like dresses, pants, and even shorts in addition to outerwear.

I usually opt for smaller items like shoes, handbags, and belts, so something new in this pretty textile will definitely be making its way to my closet. One think I like about patent leather is it has a dressy look to it, even when it’s worn with jeans. I think they are fabulous, but I am on the fence about the larger items; I am not so sure I could carry off a coat. I also might just get tired of it…

As much as I like it, a black patent leather coat might be too high fashion for every day. Who knows; the season has just begun, and the fact that basic black is taking a backseat to brighter and lighter colors gives me something to think about. Some of the glossy leather coats I have seen might be kind of cool to wear when it rains.

I definitely like this look, but I have a feeling I will be sticking to shoes and accessories. If you do opt
for a coat, make sure you check out the styles with fur collars that are detachable in case it rains…or better yet, just add your own fur scarf.
