Lone Shoulder Rides Again
It may not be one of my favorites, but I always have to give it up to a trend that has the power to have a presence year after year. One fashion trend that is literally holding its own and hanging on in the fashion world is the one-shoulder detail on garments. This trend can be found on racks all year long, but it’s ideal for the summertime heat.
Year after year, season after season, the one-shoulder trend still manages to look fresh, stylish, and of course sexy. The one-
shoulder style is a classic that shows up on a regular basis, but even the trendiest fashionista never grows tired of it. This sassy detail gets worked every which way but out. It’s available on just about every garment where it’s structurally possible. I bet with a little imagination, this one-shoulder detail could be translated onto shoes, belts, and handbags.
In addition to being cool and comfortable when the temperature rises, this particular style has an ultra-feminine feeling about it. Its roots in fashion reach way, way back in time. What I find very charming about this style is when it’s used on garments with fabric that drapes, it always reminds me of pictures of Greek goddesses. The one-shoulder detail also has a cool ’70s and ’80s vibe that is perfect this year. You can actually rock several eras depending on the rest of your outfit.
I tend to think this style works best for nighttime, but it’s a popular style for both day and evening. It shows up at formal events and the red carpet as often as it does on casual tops, dresses, and swimwear. You can also have fun and create different looks with the sleeves of the garments you choose. Lengths range from sleeveless to extending all the way down to your wrist. Depending on the amount shown, the extra bit of skin can be bold or subtly sexy, and quite flattering to a wide range of shapes.
If you add this style to your wardrobe, be sure to take note of how nicely it shows off all of the cool accessories we are also
seeing this summer. This style is perfect for drawing attention to the bold necklaces, cuffs, and bracelets that are also popular this year.
Feel free to always consider this style, because it isn’t limited to summer; it can transition into cooler weather with a few layering and fabrication tricks, and of course, it’s a fabulous choice for the holidays.
