Long Denim Skirts

The only thing I like better than a hot fashion item that is one of my personal favorites is a hot fashion item that is a combo of two of my favorites.

The ’70s are still a major influence on fashion, and of the several iconic fashion items it brought with it, one of my favorites is the maxi skirt. Maxi skirts have a definite retro ’70s vibe, but they also have a cool contemporary look, and believe it or not, they are a nice option even when the temperature rises.

Denim is the other hot trend that is on the top of my list. Just give me a pair of comfortable jeans and I have half of my outfit figured out, so it’s no surprise I am a fan of denim maxi skirts. I like to dress up every now and then, but I love the fact that it’s become acceptable to wear jeans just about anywhere with the right accessories.

The cool thing about denim skirts is that they let you go a little more girl and let you take a break from wearing jeans or pants in general, but you don’t have to give up the comfort and cool look of a great pair of jeans. I am all about the maxi-length skirt, but just like any other skirt, there are several styles to choose from. You can go full or straight, with or without a slit, or you can go A-line or embellished with ruffles, pleats, and hardware. Ralph Lauren did a denim skirt a few years ago with a train that I still dream about, but there is a very cool one in his newest line that I have my eye on.

Long denim skirts have arrived right on time. If you don’t remember the hippie chic look of the ’70s, you can use the grunge look of the ’90s for inspiration when putting together outfits. If you get a little stuck putting an outfit together, just insert a long denim skirt where you would wear your favorite pair of jeans. Top your skirt off with pretty blouses, sexy fitted crop tops, or billowy peasant shirts. You can even work the denim on denim trend with a western or traditional chambray shirt. Same goes for accessories and shoes: Funky belts, boots, or platforms will complete a fun boho look, or you can have fun a pair a distressed denim skirt with sequins, lace, or silk and a pair of to-die-for or completely ultra-feminine shoes.
