Your lifestyle, your quirk
A cute miniskirt is perfect for summer weather. Providing you have the legs and want to show them off, make sure you have several different styles of this warm weather favorite in your closet.
I am not a huge fan of short skirts for myself, but one style I do love is the trumpet or fluted miniskirt. This style of skirt is also a favorite when it’s long. It’s a popular choice during prom time, at weddings, and it shows up on the red carpet on a regular basis. You can also choose a transitional fabric to take this style right into fall 2012.
I am always surprised to find some of the most glamorous fashion items have humdrum names, but the name trumpet mini fits this garment to a T; it looks just like a trumpet. This skirt style has a narrow top part that fits snugly around the hips and gradually flares out either slightly or in an exaggerated fashion.
I know my miniskirt days are numbered, but this shape is going to allow me to work a miniskirt just a bit longer. At first glance, you might think this is an extremely youthful style, and it can be, but if you work the right fabric and go a little longer with length to below the knee, this miniskirt can go from cute to chic. It may be just in my mind, but I think this detailing makes miniskirts easier for the more mature fashionista to add to her wardrobe.
What I also like about this trumpet shape is it creates an ultra-feminine hourglass shape no matter what your body type is, and the ruffled skirt part gives you a cute swish when you walk. I like to think this feature also takes a bit of attention away from your actual hips, just in case you’re self-conscious.
This style of miniskirt looks best when it worn with a top that skims your hips or is tucked in to really let the curves flow, but it also looks nice paired with a jacket or as part of a suit. A trumpet mini can also take some of the edge off a business suit. With a quick change of accessories and shoes, it can instantly go from work to play.
