Make Your Dress Metallic
A fabulous dress never really goes out of style, and since the ladylike look is a hot trend, we have been seeing quite a few options as far as fabrics, colors, and styles for this simple garment. One of the latest options to choose from for Fall 2012 is the metallic fabric dress.
High school and college homecoming dances are on deck, the holidays are just around the corner, and there is always Saturday night on the town, so one of these “precocious metals,” to quote People magazine, would be perfect for either one or all of these occasions.
Like most of the other hot trends, the options for this particular trend are endless, but if you need some inspiration or suggestions to help you narrow
things down, you should check out the November 5th issue of People magazine.
Their Stylewatch section features four very different celebrity fashionistas – Kelly Osbourne, Olivia Palermo, Brittany Snow, and Eva Longoria – in four different styles of metallic dresses. Kelly is in a futuristic-looking mini dress, Brittany in an Old Hollywood-inspired strapless dress, Eva is in a classic sheath, and Olivia is actually wearing what looks like a metallic lace skirt and shimmery beaded top.
What you can do is pick out the celebrity fashionista that best mimics your body type and coloring and follow their lead. If you’re not sure about your body type, this is a perfect opportunity to do some research on what looks best on you for future reference. You can also use these gals for suggestions for makeup and hair, or have fun and come up with your own.
I picked out several styles that are similar to what the ladies in People are wearing, but feel free to substitute styles, colors and fabrications. My favorite is the sheath style on Eva Longoria; I am not crazy about the color she chose in the magazine, but I would take her lead and choose a solid metallic like the silver sheath dress from Shopforclothes.com. All of the interesting fabrications are stunning, but a solid lets you work the trend and the simplicity of the dress leaves you with lots of options for accessorizing and changing the look of the dress. Another fabulous choice is going with separates for the same reason you can mix and match with other garments, just in case you have more than one date planned.
