Military Wear

There is a lot going on in fashion this season and most of them have the common theme of femininity and color going on. For those of you looking for a change of pace, there is one trend coming down the catwalk you may want to embrace: the military look.

Several designers and brands have included this trend in their summer clothing and shoe collections, and as much as I love all the retro and frills, this is also one of my favorites.

You will have an endless array of options for working this trend, including vintage and military store finds. Look for gold buttons, military detailing like epaulettes, and all shades of khaki.

One label in particular you should check out is Elizabeth and James, the clothing line by the Olsen sisters, Ashley and Mary-Kate. I have never been a fan of their acting, but I will tell anyone who will listen that I lust over their line and I actually like their personal style. Like many other celebrity designers, the Olsen sisters’ line reflects their own personal style, which is quite eclectic. I love that it is a fun blend of masculine and feminine energy. The best part is that although several pieces are part of their fall 2012 line, some of them can be worn right now. These two seem to really have a finger on the pulse of fashion, so it’s no surprise that Elizabeth and James is right on time for the military trend and a few others that are going to be in for fall 2012.

Even if you’re not a fan of the military look, you should definitely check out this line. The pieces in the line are a cool blend of tailored blazers and menswear-inspired shirts and trousers that can create other looks. Elizabeth and James also includes fun and funky boho-chic dresses, skirts, accessories, and shoes.

The military look trend is also quite popular with guys, so feel free to take a few hostages from your favorite man’s closet.
