Miniskirt on the Prairie

Miniskirts are definitely a staple for warm weather dressing, but fall is just around the corner. One fashion trend that is slated as a hot look for fall is western wear, so ladies, start making the transition into fall weather in a flirty prairie miniskirt.

This trend is pretty easy to describe: a prairie miniskirt is the short version of the prairie skirt, a full dirndl-style skirt with a flounce on the bottom edge. It’s very similar to a tired skirt, but usually has only one. Prairie skirts usually have a western or country vibe to them, and are sometimes lined or trimmed in lace or other decorative embellishments.

This skirt is flirty, fun, and at first glance it might appear to be too young for the more mature fashionista, but if it’s worn with the right top, accessories, and shoes, it can work for just about any age. This style of skirt is versatile, but you might want to wear this for more casual or dressier occasions and skip wearing it to the office.

The prairie miniskirt was popular in the ’80s, so it’s also a great way to work a little bit of retro into your wardrobe, especially if you’re a big fan of that fashion era. But on the same note, because it was so hot in the ’80s, if you’re looking to work a more contemporary look, playing up the western vibe is definitely the way to go.

Although I won’t be working this skirt in a mini length, I do plan on a few longer versions just as soon as the temperature drop a bit more. I am just more of a fan of long skirts, so if you have the legs, go for it. One of these cute skirts is a stylish way to show off your fall footwear.

There is definitely a country/western theme starting to flow in the fashion world, but you may want to make sure you don’t go too country. Be careful with footwear, accessories, and tops. Do check out all of the other items with a western vibe, like ruffled blouses, western belts, and boots – just don’t wear them all at the same time.

If worn with the right accessories, this little skirt can go out night or day. As the temperature drops, add fun stockings and socks to the mix of your outfits. Denim is a top choice, but definitely check out this skirt in prints and then corduroy and heavier fabrics later on.
