Material Girl, the clothing line created by Madonna and her daughter Laurdes, has picked yet another daughter of rock and roll to be its face for 2012. Mick Jagger’s 20-year-old daughter, Georgia May Jagger, is the new Material Girl.
Georgia broke the news herself yesterday morning when she tweeted, “It’s true! I’m the new face of @MaterialGirl! I must say I LOVE working with Madonna + Lola :)”
In a statement released to the press, Georgia was more formal in her excitement. “To be handpicked by Madonna and Lola as the new face of Material Girl is truly amazing. I’ve always admired Madonna’s style and I’m thrilled to be working with them.”
The Material Girl website reads, “We are sooo excited to announce that Georgia May Jagger is the new face of Material Girl!” They go on to tout Georgia’s modeling experience before adding, “Not to mention, she is the offspring of another MAJORRR music icon, Mick Jagger of The Rolling Stones!”
Georgia is set to appear in the Material Girl back-to-school campaign beginning this summer. She is replacing last year’s model Kelly Osbourne, who is another daughter of a famous rocker (Ozzy Osbourne). Kelly was a great fit for the brand, which features clothes inspired by a punk-pop look and Madonna’s famous fashions from the ’80s.
The Material Girl brand was launched in 2010. Its first ad campaign model was Taylor Momsen, who touted the “good girl gone bad” image that the brand is inspired by. Currently, Material Girl is distributed only in the U.S. and Canada exclusively at Macys, but it is set to launch in the U.K., Europe, and Australia this summer once Georgia is incorporated into the ads.
Georgia is not a super surprising pick, as she fits the bill of being the offspring of a legendary rocker and has plenty of experience modeling. She has been the cover model for several high-end magazines, including Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, and Elle, in addition to modeling in ad campaigns for Hudson Jeans, H&M, and Rimmel. She also recently walked the catwalk in the Chanel cruise show in the Palace of Versailles. Currently, she can be seen featured on billboards for the annual Fashion Targets Breast Cancer campaign.
The Material Girl brand does not only exclusively use beautiful rocker spawn as its face. Earlier this year, a Lucky Stars model search ensued; Madonna and Laurdes hand-picked three winners to model for the line in various magazine, online, and in-store ads beginning this February.
