Rain Rain, Go Away

In all of this summer heat, it’s hard to believe icky weather is just around the corner. I don’t need much convincing, because it’s rained like cats and dogs several times a week for almost a month where I live. It does help with cooling things off, but mostly it’s just a friendly reminder to get ready for what’s coming.

Wet weather any time of the year can make going outside pretty unpleasant, unless you like the rain. I really don’t care for the rain, but we need it and there is an upside: all the fabulous “bad weather” clothing and accessories there are to choose from. You may not need them right now while it’s so warm, but one foul weather item you may want to start shopping for is a pair of rain boots.

More mature fashionistas could almost say that rain boots are back in style. When you’re little, rain boots are usually fun to wear. If you’re like me, you reach a certain age and suddenly rain boots are un-cool and so not fashionable. Call it peer pressure or vanity, but I remember when I would rather ruin a pair of shoes and possibly get sick than wear a pair of rubber rain boots.

Age brings wisdom, and it changes your outlook a bit when you have to pay for your own shoes. I can remember suddenly appreciating the whole concept of rain boots and wanting to wear them whether they were stylish or not.

In a case of good timing, the rain boots that have been coming down the catwalk for the past couple of years are fun, funky, and actually fashionable, and this year it’s more of the same. One more time, every hot trend in fashion and footwear is available in a pair of rain boots, even this season’s hot wedge heel.

Rain boots are normally something you take off as soon as you get indoors and out of the bad weather, but some of these current styles are so stylish you won’t mind; you may actually want to keep them on indoors. Back in the day, your choices were black, yellow, or another bright primary color, but the choices available are endless, and some styles could almost pass for non-rain boots. Whether you’re looking for a whimsical trip down memory lane or something you wear to the office or all day, you're sure to find a rain boot that is just perfect for nostalgia or fashion’s sake.
