Your lifestyle, your quirk
Love Rihanna’s style? Well, pretty soon you’ll be able to dress like the saucy songstress! The 24-year-old beauty is designing her first clothing collection for River Island, she announced Monday.
River Island is a well-respected British brand, founded and based in London by the Lewis family more than sixty years ago. River Island has over 300 stores in the U.K., Republic of Ireland, Russia, Holland, Poland, Belgium, Middle East, and Far East, and offers worldwide shipping through its website. It is known for its affordable, catwalk-inspired statement pieces with lots of embellishments and prints – sounds like a perfect match for RiRi!
According to River Island's website, employees are "all huge fans of Rihanna's style" and were "flattered…when she approached us about working together and bringing our fashion experience to her range."
"I've been wanting to design my own collection for some time. River Island is the perfect partner for me to collaborate with and working with a British, family-run business also really appealed to me," said the singer in a release.
One person who’s totally psyched for Rihanna’s line is mama-to-be Snooki. The Jersey Shore guidette tweeted: "@rihanna has a clothing line? HOLLA.”
While details are still scarce, the capsule collection will launch in spring 2013. One thing’s for sure: the collection is sure to be F-I-E-R-C-E with Rihanna behind it!
This isn’t Rihanna’s first foray into fashion; she has already teamed up with Italian luxury label Armani for a limited edition line of clothing and lingerie.
There was some controversy when the British tabloid The Sun claimed she used a body double for the super-sexy Armani ad. The commercial featured Rihanna rolling around in some Armani undies while apparently having a nightmare, but according to The Sun's story, the shots of her bust and derriere supposedly belong to model Jahnassa Aicken, not RiRi. How scandalous!
The singer launched into an X-rated rant against the British tabloid on her Twitter page, bashing it for the story "Ok @thesunnewspaper, this is the only way I could say this to you!!! F—K YOU…AND yo baggy ass condom," tweeted Rihanna.
The paper also claimed that Rihanna's management made the body double sign a nondisclosure agreement prohibiting her from talking about the job.
An angry Rihanna subsequently tweeted, "Who is Jahnassa," then asked, "Does she have a tat on her hand too."
She eventually calmed down, adding, "Ok enough of that! I coulda been more clever about it, but I was lazy."
Rihanna sure seems to be getting serious about fashion lately.
"I've always loved fashion. Fashion has shaped me into the artist I am today," she recently explained in a video to promote her upcoming U.K. television show Styled to Rock.
Styled to Rock will air on the U.K.'s Sky Living HD network for 10 weeks starting in August and will spotlight the "We Found Love" singer as she mentors young British designers alongside her own stylist, Lisa Cooper, as well as fashion designer Henry Holland and Nicola Roberts of the group Girls Aloud. Sounds fun!
