From Runway to Everyday

Different colors, like certain styles, eras, and garments, take turns in the fashion spotlight each season. As fabulous as some fashion trends are, not everything makes an easy transition off the runway and onto the body and feet of the everyday fashionista. This can often be the case of the color purple.

Purple, especially in deep, rich shades, has been coming down the runways for most big designer names and gracing the pages of most magazines. It’s as if I can’t turn a page without seeing this color pop, and I know you definitely won’t miss Lady Gaga on the cover of the September issue of Vogue. In fact, the September issue of Glamour features the color purple in its infamous do’s and don’ts section on page 103.

About.com has an interesting bit of background on the color, if you care to check it out.

The color purple can come in many different shades, from light to dark. They may have different names, but they all fall under the purple spectrum. For me, when purple is in darker and richer tones, I think it has a more luxurious and mysterious feeling to it.

According to About.com, purple is also often associated with royalty and spirituality. It’s not my all-time favorite color, but it is pretty, and because of its symbolic references, I think it’s always nice when this color is a hot fashion trend. I will take some positivity and luxury with my fashions any year.

Although purple in just about any shade is attractive and can still be symbolic, it can be a little tricky to wear for every day. Most of the fabulous clothes, shoes, and accessories I am seeing are perfect if you live a glamorous, high-fashion lifestyle but might not work for everyday folks. It may be that purple still needs a minute to trickle down a bit more, but there are a few items and ideas to work this color into your wardrobe without going too glam.

Glamour magazine gives some gorgeous examples of how purple is having its celebrity moment, but here are ways that purple can work in the real world.

1. Wear your purple as shoes or accessories like a watch, ring, or pretty necklace.

2. Add some purple lipstick, eye, or nail color to your beauty routine.

3. If you opt for a purple garment or outfit, mix it with neutrals or black.
