Your lifestyle, your quirk
Donna Summer will definitely be missed but her music will live on. Donna Summer was and will always be the Queen of Disco. Whenever I hear one of her songs, it takes me back to my own days of disco and dancing the night away. Her music is still popular today, and I know it’s hard for anyone not to belt out a song or two, even if they are in public. In addition to making such a lasting impression with her music, Donna Summer also had a distinctive style when it came to her stage costumes and wardrobe.
Now, I never hung out with her and I am sure she had a “downtime” look like the rest of us do, but onstage, she had a glamorous, feminine style. Donna’s outfits can now be called retro because of the era, but what she wore in the ’80s was a mix of other retro eras like the ’30s and ’40s. In addition to the low-cut, glittery gowns, she often wore floral dresses that hit below the knee, shoulder pads, fitted suits, and glamorous shoes to match. All of these looks are back with a vengeance. The florals are perfect for daywear, and the glittered gowns will make fun and over-the-top glam looks for proms or any special evening occasion you might have.
In addition to her fabulous wardrobe, Donna Summer was also known for her signature hairdos. When it wasn’t flowing loose in a curly mass, she often wore her hair in vintage-looking styles. Whether rolled up or loose, both styles were often completed with a gorgeous flower. Several other contemporary celebrity fashionistas like Rihanna, Lady Gaga, and Rachel McAdams have adopted this look over the years on and off stage and red carpet. If you can’t squeeze one more clothing purchase into your budget right now, a fast way to pull a disco queen look this summer is with a pretty flower in your hair.
You can go real or faux with this pretty accessory, and just about any flower will do. Wear it in the front, back, or to the side. Just pick your favorite flower; the only rule is to make sure it’s big!
