Your lifestyle, your quirk
A nice dress is still one of the best ways to look pretty in all of this lovely weather we’ve had. Thanks to all the interesting retro trends we are working this year, there is quite a selection of lovely dress options to choose from.
One style in particular that blends in with everything going on is a tiered dress. I do like this trend, but I will say that I feel a little thick if I don’t watch where I put my tiers. Yes, I am a little vain, but that won’t stop me from giving this trend the thumbs up or adding one to my warm weather wardrobe. In addition to possibly adding a few imaginary or real inches, a tiered dress can often be too overwhelming or too cute. But on the same note, it’s those two qualities that lend to its charm, because tiered dresses have a definite feminine quality to them.
If you’re looking to add this style to your closet, you won’t have to look too far. Practically every designer has incorporated this trend into their current lines. Finding a dress won’t be an issue, but choosing one might.
Once you start shopping for this trend, you will find that in addition to all of the lovely fabrics and colors to choose from, there are several ways to work this trend as far as length and styles. Short versions of this trend seem to be monopolizing magazine pages, but my choice will probably be a longer midi or maxi length for a romantic, bohemian look. I always go long, but if you can pull the shorter for a babydoll, sort of ’80s look, go for it.
I often think this style of dress in shorter lengths works better for the younger fashionista and is better left for less formal events, but several dresses with this embellishment have recently showed up on the red carpet, and that theory went right out the window. Although the celebrity fashionistas who worked this look were 30-somethings, they let us know that this trend can go either way. Making this dress age-appropriate is just a matter of the choices of the fabric. Just be sure to consider the print and detailing like neckline, sleeves, and color. You can also change the look of your tiered dress with different accessories and jewelry. Shoes can also instantly change the look of this dress. A pair of pumps produces a ladylike feeling, and a pair of funky platforms takes this dress straight to fun.
