Your lifestyle, your quirk
The retro trend is still going strong as a major fashion influence. Along with all of the cool shoes, clothes, and accessories, there are several details and embellishments that are representative of different eras. One of the details we are seeing on clothing is the keyhole neckline.
This decorative embellishment has retro roots that go way back, but can be channeled to work with just about any fashion era and contemporary looks. Keyhole detailing isn’t one of my favorites, but what I do like about it is that it can work for all body types. It’s a one size fits all fashion trend, but it is one just for us gals.
Keyhole detailing can be subtle or very obvious; it just depends on the overall look you’re going for. When this detailing is obvious, smaller-busted fashionistas can pull keyhole detailing off without a hitch; it’s quite sexy and it can give you the illusion of a more ample bust. More full-figured gals may want to be a bit more careful when they are working this interesting detail. Now, you don’t have to skip this trend and avoid keyhole detailing all together, but you don’t want to show too much skin…unless that’s your intention.
Keyhole detailing also doesn’t have to be overly sexy; a lot of it depends on the location. It’s normally on the neckline, but it can be a subtle or dramatic effect when it’s used on other places, like on a long-sleeved garment for the contrast of skin and fabric.
The name keyhole isn’t glamorous, but it fits perfectly; when this detailing is used on a garment, the shape formed is like looking through a keyhole. This detail is typically used on dresses and tops, usually in the front, but it’s also showing up in the back of garments, both the upper and lower parts. What I also like about this feature is that keyhole detailing is a way to work the retro trend without dating your garment too much. There is no doubt keyhole detailing comes from fashion eras gone by, but it’s also always available if it’s one of your favorites. You can also find this trend on bathing suits, halter tops and beach cover-ups.
