Want to Look Like a Billion?
Today billionaires come in all walks of life and industries, and they no longer only wear suits and ties. Well, some still do, but things have gotten a lot more casual. It’s not unusual to see CEOs dressed like they are ready to hit the clubs or are still in school.
Word on the fashion streets, according to the August issue of GQ, is that music’s Pharrell Williams and fashion’s Mark McNairy have joined forces to create a new line of clothing, Bee Line for the Billionaires Club.
I wasn’t familiar with Mark McNairy, but the photo of the duo in GQ caught my eye because the two are a bit of an unlikely pair.
The picture of Mark in his nerdy glasses alongside the very cool Pharrell made me curious to find out more.
I took a look at the site and a few items of clothing. The main page is just as colorful and impressive as the GQ spread with various models and cool outfit ideas. The clothes look comfortable, well-made, and distinctive. There are a few pieces I could call basics, but most of them are edgy with a definite streetwear vibe. There were even a few pieces that reminded me of several high-fashion designers.
The overall look of the line is youthful, hip, and ultra-casual with a couple of higher-end textiles tossed into the mix. I checked out the varsity jacket with gold leather sleeves mentioned in GQ and thought it was cool, but pricey. I won’t be making a purchase for the males in my life, but I can see the appeal to a specific market.
The name of the line definitely fits for the designers’ lifestyles. Both guys are successful in their industries; Pharrell Williams is half of the Grammy-winning duo The Neptunes, and Mark McNairy is an established designer.
I think the line looks like a lot of fun, and if you really love something and will wear it to death, it’s worth it. I just have a hard time justifying a purchase for clothes that can’t pull double duty for me and go off to work. Just a heads-up, if you work in a suit and tie, the Billionaire Boys Club line would be very cool for your days off, but could easily go to work with the fashion-conscious guy who can afford to wear what he wants.
