Your lifestyle, your quirk
The Avengers isn’t just another superhero movie – it brings all of our favorite heroes together on the same screen. The highly anticipated film hits theaters this Friday. While you probably already have your tickets preordered, have you figured out what to wear? It’s totally possible to support your favorite superhero with a Team Hulk or Team Captain America-inspired outfit without: A.) Looking like a dork, and B). Squeezing into Scarlett Johansson’s cat suit.
Tony Stark, AKA Iron Man, is an eccentric billionaire genius and playboy. Although you are not likely a billionaire genius (sorry), it doesn’t mean you can’t take some fashion hints inspired by him and add a little eccentric flair to your ensemble.
We feel this is what Robert Downy Jr. does anyway, as he’s been looking pretty darn sharp at movie premieres in his dark jeans and dress jackets, with a little sheen added for flair.
If Captain America is your favorite Avenger, have no fear, you don’t have to come clad in red, while, and blue and risk being mistaken as Uncle Sam in order to show your support. Since Captain America crashed into the Arctic during his final mission, subsequently preserving himself in the ice from the 1940s to now, his style is still stuck in the ’40s. Lucky for ol’ Captain, some of today’s fashions are still inspired by that era -- namely hairstyles. The classic ’do of large waves and a bun or ponytailed tied to the side is very hot right now. Just look at any red carpet and you’ll see a handful of starlets sporting this vintage style.
For all those Hulksters out there (the green ones – not the WWE fans), take a note from the Incredible Hulk’s confidence. No, I’m not recommending you show up to the theater in just a tiny pair of shorts and your body painted green, but you can mimic the Hulk’s bold and brash attitude with your fashion choices. Don’t be afraid to stand out with a dash of bold color – perhaps a bright green scarf tied around your head and knotted on top, or tied around your waist to draw attention to your curves.
Thor, the God of Thunder, hails from the ancient land of Asgard. Clearly, he has his own style. Although sporting some chainmail and a red cape will probably get you the wrong kind of stares from people, Thor does have the right idea of pairing an outfit made up of primarily a solid, safe color (silver in his case) with a single dash of bold color (the red cape). You can accomplish this same fashion by keeping the base of your outfit toned down – think skinny jeans and a navy top – and adding a splash of color in your details, such as red sneakers or an eye-catching necklace.
The two women on the Avengers team also adhere to this fashion rule. Both Natasha Romanova and Maria Hill sport sexy all-black leather ensembles. The Black Widow’s chosen flair piece is her gorgeous auburn hair. When paired with her dark look, her hair draws attention to her gorgeous – although deadly – face. Hill, on the other hand, chose to keep her locks dark but flaunts a cropped hairstyle that not many can get away with. The almost pixie-like ’do inevitably draws attention to Hill’s gorgeous but piercing blue eyes.
It looks like Hawkeye is on board the Hunger Games train, expertly sporting his bow and arrows. While you’re not likely to have such weapons at home (or be allowed to just walk around town wearing them), Hawkeye does have a look you can borrow from. The marksman has some fiiiiine arms and knows it. He wears sleeveless tops to show off his best asset. You have a best asset, too: take an honest look at yourself to determine what it is and then play it up. Accent lusciously full lips with a bold lipstick, draw attention to your pert posterior with the right-fitting jeans, or bravely flaunt those abs you’ve been working so hard on in a tighter tank top.
Phil Coulson may be the most relatable member of the Avengers, as he is the only Plain Jane human. He has no superpower, but the man can rock a suit and tie! Coulson is always seen dressed to the nines, no matter what he’s doing. Take his dedication to looking dapper in whatever he’s doing as the go-ahead to pair those awesome new heels you’re dying to show off with a pair of tapered jeans and a flirty blouse. No one says you can’t be the best-dressed gal at the movie theaters. You’ll make your date proud, and he’ll have to work that much harder to keep the gawkers at bay.
Finally, much can be gleaned from Nick Fury, the director of the avengers’ group known as S.H.I.E.L.D. All of his leadership skill aside, the man is a bold fashionista. He sports an eye patch and somehow manages to make it look good. Really good. For those braver fashion souls out there, feel free to be inspired by Mr. Fury to try a bold and unique look and make it your own. It seems to be working well for Lady Gaga and Nicki Minaj.
As you can see, there are plenty of ways to show your support for and love of The Avengers at the release tomorrow. Good luck putting your outfit together and enjoy the show!
