Whitney Port’s Whitney Eve
Once upon a time, it was actress/model or actress/singer, but now more than ever, it’s become singer or actress/designer.
Crossing over into the fashion world doesn’t always pan out; several celebrity fashionistas have produced lines of clothing and accessories and they don’t survive a season, let alone a year. The world of fashion can be tough for anyone; a famous name doesn’t always guarantee style and success, but it also can’t hurt. It may not seem like it, but being famous can be a double-edged sword. It can also set an unfair bar and cause skepticism, or at least it did for me.
When Whitney Port, who was then famous for the TV show The Hills, tossed her hat into the fashion arena, I wasn’t expecting to be overly impressed. I watched that show once and I don’t think I ever fully recovered. I want to say I had no words, but I did, and Emmy-winning were definitely not on the list.
Thus I’m pleasantly surprised that Whitney Port’s line, Whitney Eve, has managed to be stylish and successful ever since it made its debut in March 2008. It’s not really my style, or, ahem, my age range, but I think the designs are darling, and what’s impressive is Whitney Eve was created and designed entirely by Whitney Port as opposed to the other route other celebrity designers go.
Whitney Eve is a collection of styles that could fit just about any occasion. What I think is also quite charming is the line not only looks like the actress/designer would wear them herself, they are ultra-feminine and girly, but without a lot of fluff. Her clothes are youthful-looking but still have a grown-up look without being provocative. I also like the idea of how she uses models that have a cute resemblance to Whitney Port. It’s just enough for the public to identify her with her line but still be able to see themselves wearing it.
The pieces range from blazers, slacks, and skirts that can go to work to cocktail dresses in lux fabrics like satin, tulle, and silk chiffon. You can easily go from
day to night just by adding accessories and mixing and matching garments within the line. In fact, the actress has added a line of accessories called Bits & Bobs by Whitney Eve.
The website boasts that Whitney Eve quickly became a favorite of celebrity fashionistas like Heidi Klum, Paris and Nicky Hilton, and the Kardashian sisters, Kourtney and Kim. The is carried by several major retailers.
