The Butterfly Effect
Most of my favorites this season can be considered high-fashion and ultra-feminine, but a wise fashionista knows that a good working wardrobe has pieces that can be worn for both work and play. My taste usually leans towards fashions that are from certain eras but also have a contemporary look. Practical fashion makes sense, especially when you’re on a budget, but I am also a fan of quirky, over-the-top, and even pieces that are a bit silly. There is one little trend I have been noticing here and there that is just too pretty to ignore. For those of you who like variety or always lean in the direction of fun for fashion, check out the use of butterflies.
Butterflies aren’t a major fashion theme, but I am not alone in noticing this fun idea for fashion. Earlier this season, colorful butterflies got at least one heads up from a fellow fashionista online. you can check out the piece here. It never really took flight as a major hot trend, but it’s still worth checking out.
Butterflies have a bit of a retro vibe, sort of a ’60s and ’70s bohemian, Mother Nature or tree nymph feeling, and a nod to nature is always nice during the warm months. So although it didn’t go mainstream, this is a fun trend you may want to work into your summer wardrobe in some way, shape, or form.
One way to add this trend to your wardrobe would be with a pretty butterfly print. Several prominent
designers used butterfly motif fabrics for dresses, tops, and bottoms this season. You can go subtle if you choose a print that is more abstract, but I like the idea of the butterfly being singled out as the theme. A closet butterfly fan could keep their butterflies undercover on the face of a watch, or boldly choose a pair of butterfly earrings, a pin, or a necklace.
Another way to work this trend is with actual butterflies on an item like a pair of shoes, or a quirky headband or barrette. You can find these items from high-end sources, fun junior brands, or you can even get creative and DIY (do it yourself). Check out local craft stores for supplies and come up with your own high-fashion accessories.
What I like about this little fashion trend is that it’s definitely a whole lot of fun, but it can have a serious high fashion glamorous side. Miu Miu’s butterfly bracelet could go just about anywhere, including the red carpet. And for a serious butterfly effect check, out the Louboutin Cinderella shoe.
