Last Saturday was a fun night of beautiful celebrities, dancing, and awards. The Dizzy Feet Foundation’s second annual “Celebration of Dance Gala” was held at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Los Angeles on July 28th.
The event was attended by celebrities and former Dancing with the Stars contestants like Carmen Electra and Extra host Maria Menounos, as well as Dancing’s professional dancers like Menounos’ former partner, Derek Hough.
Electra was a presenter at the event, along with Glee stars Chord Overstreet and Harry Shum Jr. and Ricki Lake who just got back into the daytime television grove again. Performing at the event were Dancing With the Stars alumni, Ryan Buzman, Misha Gabriel, twitch, Kathryn McCormack, and the cast of Step Up Revolution.
Menounos tweeted on Saturday night, “Performers tonight at dizzy feet are incredible. I have tears in my eyes and chills down my body! Syris killed.”
One noticeable absence was Katie Holmes, co-founder of the Dizzy Feet Foundation and the originally scheduled host for the evening affair. Holmes’ representative confirmed earlier last week that Holmes would not be able to make it. Although the reason for Holmes’ bailing was not provided to the public, it likely has to do with her recent filing for divorce from Tom Cruise. This would have been her first red carpet event since the divorce filing. She is likely still recovering from the intensity of the situation she is still dealing with and is just not ready to be back at work in the public eye pretending everything is okay.
Holmes founded the nonprofit Dizzy Feet Foundation alongside DWTS judge Carrie Ann Inaba and So You Think You Can Dance producer Nigel Lythgoe and judge Adam Shankman. The foundation encourages and supports youth dance education.
Holmes was a guest judge on So You Think You Can Dance last year, with her then-5-year-old daughter Suri in the audience cheering her mom on with a large sign reading, “We Love You Katie” and munching on a monster cookie. Holmes also showed off some of her lesser known dancing and singing talent by performing on the show in 2009. She described her performance as “a homage to Judy Garland.”
Let’s hope Katie is able to recoup from divorce attention and get back to her career soon – perhaps it will include a little more singing and dancing now!
