Adele Calls Out…Everyone
As if I needed any more reason to simply adore Adele. The outspoken 24-year-old singing phenom said what is on many of our minds. Apparently, the recent pictures Lady Gaga posted of herself in just teeny-tiny yellow panties and a matching bra was the final straw for Adele, and the very pregnant star publically expressed her disapproval of fellow musicians who use their bodies and sex appeal to gain fame and sell records.
“I’ve seen them up close and they don’t even look like that,” Adele said, referring to musicians who don pounds of makeup and skimpy outfits intended to increase their sex appeal to fans.
I’m guessing Adele’s statement will sting for a lot of individuals in the music industry, because the truth hurts. I don’t want to name names, but just for fun, let’s say some examples might rhyme with “Schriana,” “Schistina Schaguilera,” and, of course, “Schady Schaga.”)
So what does Adele suggest the sexualized stars do?
“I just stand there and sing. I’m not worried that I’m a ‘plus size’ and so much bigger than other artists,” Adele offered. “No matter what you look like, the key is to be happy with yourself.”
The advice sounds a tad cliché, but it sure as hell seems to be working for Adele. Sure, as a plus-size star, Adele’s weight has often been the topic of discussion. However, the singer has made it clear that she has no desire to starve herself thin or spend most of her days slaving away in the gym in order to fit the social ideal for her profession.
"My life is full of drama and I won't have time to worry about something as petty as what I look like. I don't like going to the gym. I like eating fine foods and drinking nice wine. Even if I had a really good figure, I don't think I'd get my t**s and a** out for no one," Adele told Rolling Stone in her 2011 cover interview.
What is Adele so busy with that she doesn’t have time to worry about her weight? Oh, not much, just winning pretty much every music award out there – including six Grammy Awards in one night, breaking album sales records, and gestating a child. No big deal.
After cleaning house at the Grammys this year, Adele announced that she will be taking a break for a few years before coming out with a new album and touring again.
“I am f***king off for four of five years,” Adele said in her Vogue interview. “If I am constantly working, my relationships fail. So at least now I can have enough time to write a happy record. And be in love and be happy. And then I don’t know what I’ll do. Get married. Have some kids. Plant a nice vegetable patch.”
It’s only been a few months into her temporary retirement, and Adele is already well on her way to accomplishing these goals. She is due with her first child any day now and is rumored to already be engaged to her baby daddy, Simon Konecki. That means she’s just a short walk down the isle and a few veggies away from having her dreams come true.
