Another Baby on the Way for SMG

If you haven’t heard yet, much-loved star of the small screen Sarah Michelle Gellar just announced that she is pregnant with her second baby. In case you forgot (and you’d be forgiven for this; they’ve been out of the news for years now), her hubby is Freddie Prinze Jr., and they had their first baby a few years ago. They may not be as popular as Brad and Angelina, but they are definitely one of my favorite celebrity couples, so I’m really excited for them!

However, I can’t help but worry about what this means for their careers. I mean, I know that networks are finally gracious and mature enough to work with women when they get a bun in the oven, but right now, it’s a really inauspicious time to announce such an important development. For one, Sarah’s show Ringer is struggling on The CW. It’s pretty much been a darkening road for this show, as it was developed for CBS, but they decided they didn’t want it, so they shoved it off on their little sister The CW. There wasn’t really an audience there either, and it’s since fallen from average ratings to barely plausible for renewal next year. I’m sure the network will be way excited to hear that Sarah Michelle is gonna be having scheduling issues. Networks are happy to work with someone that brings in viewers, but are notorious for being unhelpful when you’re not making them money.

On the other hand, Freddie Prinze Jr. is on deck at NBC for a new sitcom in the fall. He’s starring opposite Mena Suvari (you may have seen her earlier this year in American Horror Story, so I guess she’s been trying to get into the TV biz for awhile now) as a newly married couple dealing with the generic antics you can expect from such a show. The premise might be somewhat basic, but anyone who saw Freddie Prinze on Friends back in 2003 knows better. He is a funny guy, and he’s not afraid to go to any extreme for a laugh, which is exactly what you need on a sitcom, and it’s what NBC needs to survive!

Regardless, I’m sure that the beautiful couple will be happy with their newborn, because they are definitely parents first, and they love having a family. More power to them, especially because Sarah Michelle is more beautiful than ever before, and she still looks 21 years old!
