Your lifestyle, your quirk
We’ve heard of art imitating reality, but for Sandra Bullock this week, reality imitated her 1994 blockbuster film Speed. The 47-year-old actress and her crew received quite a shock when a Boston city bus crashed into the set of her latest film, The Heat.
At approximately 9:30 a.m. on Monday, July 9, a Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority bus crashed into a production truck just outside Roxbury District Court, and six ambulances responded.
“It was scary,” said one passenger, Alistair Allen, to WCVB Boston. “The sound scared you more than anything else. I mean, you got thrown ad you hit yourself but the sound was like, ‘boom!’”
The bus held approximately 20 passengers, with 15 of them sustaining minor injuries. The driver was among those injured. The Boston Emergency Medical Services confirmed that ten individuals were placed on stretchers, while eleven were taken to the hospital.
The way the bus crumpled in the crash, with the entrance being pressed against the back-left corner of the truck, it was hard for passengers to exit the bus.
The production bus that was struck by the bus also had a production crew member in it, but coworkers claim he appeared to suffer no serious injuries.
The cause of the crash is still unknown, but is under investigation by the Transit Police.
A strange and unfortunate coincidence is that Bullock experienced another crash the last time she was filmed in Massachusetts as well. Unfortunately, she and then-husband Jesse James were directly involved in the 2008 crash while she was filming The Proposal with Ryan Reynolds.
Bullock and James had been riding in a car driven by Mark Hussey in Gloucester when 64-year-old Lucile Gatchell struck them head on. Gatchell was legally intoxicated. Thankfully, no one was injured.
Bullock has seen great success as an actress, with some of her most notable roles in the films Speed, The Net, While You Were Sleeping, Miss Congeniality, The Lake House, Crash, and The Blind Side. For her role as Leigh Anne Tuohy in The Blind Side, Bullock won a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress, a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role, and the Academy Award for Best Actress.
