Camila Alves is Coming to Macy’s

There’s nothing like getting married to a highly sought after Hollywood bachelor to get your name and face recognized in the entertainment industry. Although Camila Alves had a successful modeling career prior to coming the new Mrs. Matthew McConaughey last month, the wedding seems to have helped her gain some business.

Macys approached Alves last month to inquire if she was interested in being the ambassador for their private clothing label I.N.C. Alves was interested, but wanted to negotiate on her own terns.

“When Macy’s approached me about this, I told them we need more than a meeting in New York,” Alves explained. “I had the team to my home in Austin, cooked some food and had some wine. They’ve got to really like me – it’s a big partnership.”

And they do really like her. According to Macy’s Senior Vice President of Merchandising, Nancy Slavin, “Camila has a beautiful, multiethnic appearance that will appeal to a diverse customer base. She’s on the red carpet, but she’s also a mother. It’s an incredible package that will deliver star power to our star brand at Macy’s.”

I think that was intended to be a compliment, but when put that way, it sounds pretty weird. I’m not sure I would be flattered to be called a “package” and chosen mainly because I look “multiethnic.”

Alves doesn’t seem to mind, however, as the gig may provide the opportunity to get her line of handcrafted leather handbags, called My Muxo by Camila Alves, in the Macy’s stores. She has developed a handbag that will sell at midprice, intended for Macy’s, but is still working on launching it.

“The product is pretty much ready. We’re just working out the details,” Alves said.

The higher priced bags from Alves’ line are already sold at Nordstrom, and a more affordable line is sold via QVC.

Alves, 30, has two children, almost-4-year-old Levi and 2-year-old Vida, with actor husband Matthew McConaughey, 42. After six years of dating and a Christmas Day proposal, they married June 9 at their home in Austin, Texas, in front of 120 of their closest friends and family.

Alves shared with People magazine last month, "Levi has asked me many times over the years, 'Mama, why am I a McConaughey but you aren't?' They are both very excited. Somehow they both seem to understand what we are doing on a spiritual level." For the record, she took McConaughey’s last name.
