Charlize Theron Done Auctioning Herself Off

Charlize Theron is known for her beauty and great acting, but she is also known to be quite candid, often foul-mouthed, and does not seem concerned about what people think of her. She demonstrated this final quality yet again this week on Conan O’Brien, when she shared how creepy she felt a man she recently had dinner with was for buying the date at a charity auction.

“Don’t say that! He’s probably watching right now!” Conan jokingly warned, but Charlize just shook her head with a smile and assured she didn’t think he was tuning in. Even if he was, she clearly did not care.

The 36-year-old star of Snow White and the Huntsman explained to Conan and the audience that she felt duped into agreeing to be auctioned off as a dinner date to help raise money for charity.

“They trick you with the whole, ‘Oh, you know, you can help so many people,’ and then you fall for it and before you know it, you’re at a restaurant with some stranger,” Charlize said. “Like, you could end up in Dahmer’s apartment!”

Charlize said she thought more and more about the date as it neared and became so concerned about the creep potential of this guy that she came up with a backup plan to protect herself.

“I went to dinner with a strange man. I made two of my girlfriends go and sit at the restaurant while I was there. The closer I got to this thing, I was like, this could actually turn out really bad. Like rich people can be creeps too. They can rape!”

Conan seemed surprised that Charlize went there, but he continued talk on the subject with her for a few more minutes, making light of it in his usual way. When he referred to the get-together as a date, however, Charlize immediately corrected him.

“Please don’t call it a date. I went to dinner with a strange man.”

Charlize’s overall message throughout the interview was “Don’t ever do it,” meaning, auction oneself off for any reason. “It is the worst idea ever. It’s one of the things, I was like, yeah I am a dumb blonde.”

“I’d rather just give them money,” Charlize ended the conversation.

Charlize has been single since separating with former partner Stuart Townsend in 2010 after nine years together. She recently became a single mom by adopting a little boy named Jackson, now six months old.
