Charlize Theron has just become a mom to a baby boy! Surprised? The 36-year-old actress didn’t make it public that she was even looking into adoption, although in the past she has expressed her desire to be a mom.
Theron’s spokesperson announced yesterday afternoon, "Charlize Theron
has adopted a child. She is the proud mom of a healthy baby boy named Jackson."
Theron adopted Jackson as a single parent. She split from her partner of nine years, Stuart Townsend, in 2010.
In a 2008 interview with
W Magazine Theron expressed her desire for children: "I always knew that I didn't want to get married. I've always known that I'd be a mom from the time I was a little girl."
In 2010, Theron talked kids again in a newspaper interview, saying she was ready to become a mom that year. “I know I'm ready for that phase of my life,” she said. "I'm reaching the point where I would love to be a mom. I know I want to raise a big family, and it's just a question of time now.”
Theron’s passion to be a mama
was stimulated by her role in the film
The Road, where her character was pregnant and she wore a prosthetic belly.
"I've been blessed in having an incredibly strong and supportive mother, who has been my guide in life. She's always been there when I've needed her—and there have been many times when I've needed her to be there for me," Theron continued.
Jackson is Theron’s first child, but we’re guessing there will be more to come.
Theron will be seen in theaters next staring in the film
Prometheus and as the evil queen in
Snow White and the Huntsman.
