Chris Brown vs. Drake Escalates
Please say it isn’t so.The bar fight between Chris Brown and Drake (which was really between Chris Brown and some of Drake’s “people”) was blown even more out of proportion this week when the two performers were offered an absurd amount of money to duke it out in a boxing ring, one-on-one, for charity.
The New York Times has reported that Brown and Drake have each been offered $1 million (yes, million!) to work their beef with one another out through three rounds in a boxing ring. Of course I have no qualms about raising money for charity – but isn’t there a more worthy scenario to draw attention to in order to raise the money?
The fight’s promoter, Damon Feldman, has also expressed the desire to land Rhianna as the ring girl for another $1 million payout, as she is the alleged reason the two singers were fighting in the first place.
“It’s more of a show than anything, and we can raise millions for charity,” Feldman said. “Instead of fighting in a bar, they could get paid to fight!"
The unspecified charity would be for women who are victims of domestic violence. does anyone else see the horrible irony of having a boxing match be a charity event to raise money for a battered women’s charity? Brown was convicted of physically assaulting Rihanna in 2009. During a fight in his rental car, Brown ended up choking his then-girlfriend Rihanna until she lost consciousness, biting her, and punching her in the face several times.
Seriously, folks. Who wants to see the likes of Brown fighting anyone again? Who wants to see him do anything? How is this man even still garnering attention as a celebrity?
Probably realizing that the likelihood of landing all three stars in a ring together is slim to none, Feldman attempted to find some way to attach Rihanna’s name to the potential boxing match by adding, "We would like to have Rihanna as a ring girl, as well, but if she doesn’t take our offer, we know she will be watching.”
Maybe she would watch. Or maybe she would have something better to do, because she’s getting as sick of hearing about the barfight as the rest of us are. Perhaps if it had been an actual one-on-one fight between the two men, and it had been clearly over Rihanna, it would be more interesting, but Drake wasn’t even physically involved in the fight and it is only speculation that it was over Rihanna.
The big bar right this is all based on occurred on June 14 at the New York City nightclub W.i.P. Brown and Drake were both at the nightclub with their entourages, when Drake allegedly flipped one of Brown’s people off and told him, “I’m about to go whoop that a**” and started encouraging people to take his side in the club. Brown’s people responded with much of the same, and Drake prepared his people for a fight (although it needs to be noted that Drake was not preparing himself to fight personally).
The tension hit a climax when Drake yelled to Brown an expletive-laden “sentence” that referenced their recent Twittter war over who was with Rihanna these days. (Again, a note needs to be inserted here – neither man is with Rihanna these days. Brown even has a girlfriend, who must really be second-guessing her choice in men right now.)
The testosterone overflowed, pushing on both sides began, and someone threw a bottle. After that, all hell broke loose and multiple bottles and punches started flying across the room. Drake chose that time to peace out, so he was not involved in the physical part of the fight. Brown escaped with a large gash on his chin from a broken bottle, which was doled to him by rapper Meek Mill.
Five people were ultimately hurt in the fight, including NBA star Tony Parker, who endured a scratched retina from a broken bottle bit. Brown’s bodyguard, Big Pat, also sustained a significant laceration on his head and spent the night in the hospital as a result.
A rep for Drake told TMZ, "Drake did not participate in any wrongdoing of any kind last night at W.i.P. He was on his way out of the club when the altercation began."
The rep added, "[Drake] did not engage in any activity which resulted in injury to person or damage to property.”
Brown initially responded to the ordeal by tweeting a close-up picture of his cut chin and the caption, "How u party wit rich n**** that hate? Lol... Throwing bottles like girls? #shameonya!."
If the charity boxing match happens, it will be in August in Las Vegas, but I don’t recommend holding your breath in anticipation.
