The Fallout of An Affair

It looks like what Kristen Stewart described in her public apology as “a moment of indiscretion” may end up costing both her and the man she cheated with, her Snow White and the Huntsman director Rupert Sanders, their long-term relationships. 

Although the likely break-up of Stewart and Twilight co-star Robert Pattinson is a very sad end to a promising young couple, Sanders is facing the loss of his entire family: his wife Liberty Ross and their two children.

Not surprisingly, Sanders is now referring to his affair with Stewart as the “worst mistake of his life.”

Who knows what he was thinking at the time, but Sanders is apparently surprised and devastated at his wife’s reaction to learning about the affair. Since the news went public, she has not spoken with him and refuses to forgive him.

''[Ross] is refusing to see [Sanders] right now and has not spoken to him about if they have a future together or not,” a source told an online gossip site. ''Rupert is willing to do absolutely anything and everything he can to save his marriage, he realizes this is the worst mistake of his life, and he cannot believe he was so stupid.

''The thought of losing his wife and children, who he loves more than anything in the world is killing him,” the source continued.

Both Sanders and Ross have been spotted publically at least once since the scandal – Sanders was wearing his wedding ring, apparently holding out hope. Ross was not.

''Liberty has told Rupert she just doesn't think she will be able to trust him again. This affair went on right under her nose and she feels like he has made her look like a fool,” a source explained. ''Rupert is just hoping it will blow over soon and he can win her back, but that is looking ever-increasingly unlikely.''

Stewart has reportedly been kicked out of the love nest she formerly shared with Pattinson and has made the unwise decision to stay at the home of her current producer, Giovanni Agnelli. Yeah, it doesn’t look like she’s learned her lesson. But it likely doesn’t matter anymore, as more and more reports are stating that Pattinson has officially called it quits on their relationship.

Although it may be too late for Stewart and Sanders, let’s hope readers have learned the lesson vicariously: don’t take your current situation for granted.
